The Wait-a-Bit Vellie – Bronco Brown

The Wait-a-Bits are an answer to a question Michael and Gareth had when discussing a collaboration: “What would this style of boot look like if it came back to South Africa for one more round of revisions? Specifically, if this English boot landed at Jim Green Headquarters, what would have to be done to have our stamp of approval?”

Jim Green constructs boots for folks who are working through the harshest conditions. African Rangers who are in the bush all day, guides, construction workers, engineers, conservationists, and anyone who needs a pair of boots to last and survive. So, the Wait-a-Bits had to be built like tanks, while remaining sharp, comfortable, and true to form.

They’re constructed from an 2.2mm-thick leather upper, with a natural rubber Falcon outsole, a 3mm vegetable-tanned leather midsole, and a 3mm vegetable-tanned leather insole. The upper is secured with a double-row stitchdown construction, and your foot is supported by a flat steel shank.

The biggest modifications had to do with the placement and size of some key components. We shifted the position and spacing of the eyelets to better secure your foot while on the move and to reduce hot spots and pinch points. We also widened the tongue for better pressure distribution and to aid with debris protection.

After rounds and rounds and rounds of iteration, we finally had our Wait-a-Bits. Tough as nails, far more supportive throughout the day, able to handle whatever you can throw at them, and ready to be dusted off and worn to a formal event.
