50% of Rangers don’t have access to sufficient Boots and Gear and over 40% are required to purchase their own Boots.
With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.
Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects rangers’ wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.
We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all-round Ranger Boot. From that, we give you the African Ranger – A Boot Designed By Rangers For Rangers.

- The boot is designed with 3 main focus areas: Comfort and Durability while at an Affordable price.
- The wedge sole is designed to grip while the softer rubber compound keeps the Ranger quiet when walking through the African bush.
- Toe, Heel and Eyelet area manufactured with a double layer of 2.2mm Full grain leather for added durability.
- Heel and Toe stiffeners for added durability, support, and protection.
- Soft leather collar and tongue for comfort and weight reduction.
- A steel shank between the insole board and sole offers extra support and stability.
- Heavy duty hooks and eyelets to secure feet.
- Insole is secured to the upper with a double stitched 2.2mm braided nylon cord.
- Can be resoled – Stitch down construction.
- STC last – This last has a 2E wide fit and offers a roomy and rounded toe box.
- Sole: OR (This sole is designed for a combination of grip, comfort, and speed. It is a genuine rubber and of a softer feel to provide comfort underfoot).

African Ranger Shoes
Initially, my experience with the African Ranger Shoes left much to be desired. As a farmer constantly on my feet, comfort is paramount, and the shoes fell short, earning a measly 2 out of 5 stars. The persistent heel slip led to painful sores, making my workdays challenging.
However, perseverance unveiled a surprising transformation. What started as discomfort gradually evolved into a remarkable level of comfort, elevating my rating to a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars over weeks and months of wear. If these shoes were likened to animals, they’d be akin to a honey badger or a Jack Russell—tenacious, resilient, and adept in the field.
Yet, like any product, the African Ranger Shoes aren’t without flaws. A more aggressive lug sole would significantly enhance traction, especially on wet terrain. Additionally, an improved insole would elevate overall comfort. Thankfully, these setbacks are easily remedied by purchasing alternative insoles.
Ultimately, I bestow upon the African Ranger Shoes a commendable 4 out of 5 stars. Despite their shortcomings, the value they offer surpasses expectations. For the price, they deliver more than one could anticipate, making them a worthy investment for any hardworking individual.

Ordered a pair of black African Ranger boots on Thursday, reactivated them on Monday ….. in Norway. Well done.
Unpacked the boots, tried them on for size.
Soft leather, size ok, will work nicely with my uniform at work.
Re-packed them, will receive them “officially” on my birthday in 2,5 weeks.
Looking forward to put them on and start using them.
Now I have to get a pair for myself, maybe I’ll try the bearfoot model next…..

[...]As a PH I used vellies from a different brand as hunting shoes but they recently fell apart so I needed new light but durable shoes. I already have extremely good experience with the Razorback and the town and country, so I wanted to get jim greens but could not decide on a model since I never liked the look of the African ranger. I actually considered asking jim green for a custom single lasted Razorback with wedge sole. That was until I saw a pair of African rangers in fudge in person in a local shop. Tried them on and it is exactly the right shoe for me. Light, breathable and just the right height. They look much better in person than on the fotos.
So far I used them daily to walk the dogs on the farm sand road(5km), today I did some casual rocky walk on the mountain. In Sand they perform perfect, on rocks they perform good(naturally not as good as the Razorback)
I really look forward for the coming months when I will do some longer walks while hunting.

These are great pair of boots. I use them hunting in western Queensland Savannah country. They provide good feel under foot, quite quiet and comfortable. I even ran 2km in them without issues. My only concern is the lack of grip on hard wet surfaces such as concrete & muddy creek banks. I found them quite slippery. But good on dry surfaces.

The wide toe box is amazing and the comfort is top-notch.
The leather breathes very well, I’ve used these all over Europe, Asia and Brazil in different climates and never had any issue.
My all-time favourite, hands-down.

I have bought the limited edition Buffalo Leather African Ranger Boots. I can kick myself for not buying Jim Green Boots sooner. The African Ranger Boots are really comfortable now that they are broken in took approximately 6 weeks (not wearing them everyday). They are good for any terrain and looks good with chino’s, jean’s and even shorts!! Keep up the good work!! Received my 2nd pair today.

Recently bought the fudge ..I love these boots, taken them out on the south downs of England where i live. They have good grip on wet chalk, nice support, they seem extremely durable with thick supple leather.

Very very happy with my new pair of African Ranger boots.
I use them on the job as a project manager between construction sites, lots of walking and on my feet all day.
The second day of having the boots I wore them for 13 hours straight without discomfort. Amazing given how tough the leather feels.
According to me they look amazing as well.
I doubt that I will ever buy another pair of shoes again! As they say in Afrikaans these are my new DKWs (Dans, kerk en werk).

So good I bought two pairs! One light and one dark brown. I love the Fudge Crazy Horse leather. Doesn’t need polish and brushes clean with a suede cleaner and wire brush. Probably the most comfortable boots I’ve worn! Good for the bush and equally good with a pair of jeans. And best of all it’s for a good cause to put more boots on Africa’s rangers through the Game Rangers Association of Africa. Well done Jim Green on an awesome new product.
